Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the terminals.
Update from Ken, May 2023: I was here in November 2022. To update the previous post from 2019, the IQOS area is closed and no smoking or e-cigarette use is allowed anywhere inside the airport, including the business lounge. Passengers should also be aware that if they go outside to smoke, there is a long single-file security line with metal detectors and baggage check just to re-enter the airport. (I am not sure if this is the norm for Moldova, or heightened security due to the situation in nearby Ukraine.)
Update from Rene F, Nov 2019:
I can confirm the smoking area is closed
(November 2019).
Also, there is no smoking area in the
business lounge.
There is now an IQOS smoking area and store
in the same place (upper floor, far corner from the restaurant).
However: I was told by a bar owner in the
city center that smoking IQOS inside (e.g. in bars) will also be
banned at some point during 2020, which will probably mean the IQOS
lounge will be closed.
