Ankara Esenboğa Airport (ESB) is the main international airport serving Turkey’s capital, Ankara, handling over 13.9 million passengers in 2025 and ranking as the country’s fourth‑busiest airport.
Ankara Esenboğa Airport, located about 28 km northeast of Ankara in the Çubuk district, has been operating since 1955 and is managed by TAV Airports Holding. It features two major asphalt runways—03C/21C at 3,750 m and 03L/21R at 3,400 m—supporting a high volume of domestic and international traffic. ESB serves as a hub for AJet, Pegasus Airlines, SunExpress, Corendon Airlines, and Turkish Airlines, making it a key aviation center for central Anatolia.
The airport’s modern combined terminal, opened in 2006, was Turkey’s first to integrate domestic and international operations under one roof. It is designed with natural daylight, advanced 100% baggage screening via EDS, and efficient systems that deliver arriving luggage to passengers in about three minutes. ESB handles roughly 40,000 passengers daily and averages 280 aircraft movements, reflecting its importance as both a political and cultural gateway to the capital.
Esenboğa has earned significant recognition, including being named Best Airport in Europe in its category by ACI Europe in both 2009 and 2020, praised for environmental innovation and service quality. Facilities include lounges, extensive shopping and dining options, car parks, free Wi‑Fi, and efficient transport links to Ankara. A new parallel runway is also under construction to expand capacity further.
