Before and After Security Smoking

Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the terminals.

Warning: Do not bring an expensive lighter. ALL LIGHTERS and MATCHES CONFISCATED ON ARRIVAL AND PRE-DEPARTURE!!!

Pre-Security Update from Charles (14th March 2019): Pre-Security outside only, many designated standings spots with pole-tray. Must go through metal detector each time. NO LIGHTERS OR MATCHES can get through this airport. Easy enough to find a light from a fellow smoker 24/7. Beer can be brought outside from Cheerway Store located next to entrance.

As of the 7th APR there is an outdoor smoking room near departure gate 23. There are car-style plug lighters, which helps as the Chinese confiscate all lighters and matches(!) from arriving passengers.

There is a smoking area. Recent feedback from Dan on the 30th March 2017: The smoking point is at the 2nd level after security checks. Follow the signage and it will bring you up the escalator

They have though a newly opened outdoor smoking area on the first floor after the security check, near the entry to the Air China Lounge, behind a Restaurant (follow the signs).

Since 1st of March 2017 the airport has put in force the new regulations by law, that all Hotels, Restaurants etc. are smoke free.
