Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX) on the island of St. Croix is the island’s primary international gateway, located about six miles southwest of Christiansted and operated by the Virgin Islands Port Authority. The airport features a 10,004‑ft (3,049‑m) asphalt runway, one of the longest in the Caribbean, capable of accommodating large jets including Boeing 747s. Originally opened in 1950 as Benedict Field, it later became Alexander Hamilton Airport before being renamed in 1996 to honor Henry E. Rohlsen, a St. Croix–born Tuskegee Airman. Its modern 181,000‑sq‑ft terminal with 10 gates, completed in 2002, supports commercial flights, inter‑island services, cargo operations, and occasional military traffic. In recent years, STX has continued to expand its role in regional connectivity, recording 265,243 enplanements in 2024 amid growing tourism and ongoing modernization efforts.
