Cyril E. King International Airport (STT) on the island of St. Thomas is the busiest airport in the U.S. Virgin Islands, handling over 1.58 million passengers in 2025 and serving as a major gateway for travel between the Caribbean and the mainland United States. Located about 3 km west of Charlotte Amalie, the airport operates a single 7,000 ft (2,134 m) asphalt runway and an 11 gate terminal, accommodating both domestic U.S./Puerto Rico flights and international or inter island services. Its history stretches back to 1927, when it began as the Mosquito Bay airstrip before evolving into a key U.S. military installation during World War II, later transitioning to civilian use and being renamed in 1984 to honor Governor Cyril E. King. Today, STT blends its strategic Atlantic location with modern passenger amenities, making it a central hub for tourism and regional connectivity.
