Located in Ciudad de la Costa, about 19 km east of downtown Montevideo, the airport operates as a public–military facility and hosts an air base of the Uruguayan Air Force. Its striking modern terminal—designed by architect Rafael Viñoly and inaugurated in 2009—features four jetways, expanded parking, and a capacity of over 3 million passengers per year, with potential expansion to 6 million. MVD has two asphalt runways (3,200 m and 2,250 m) and handled 2.08 million passengers in 2025, underscoring its role as Uruguay’s primary hub for travel, commerce, and cargo operations.
