Batumi International Airport Alexander Kartveli (IATA: BUS) is a key gateway to Georgia’s Black Sea coast, located just 2 kilometers south of Batumi city center.

Opened in 1954 and extensively modernized in 2007, the airport was named after Alexander Kartveli, a Georgian-born pioneer of aviation design. It features a 2,500-meter asphalt runway and a compact terminal designed to handle around 600,000 passengers annually, though in recent years traffic has exceeded this capacity thanks to Batumi’s growing popularity as a tourist destination. The airport serves both domestic and international flights, with connections to major cities such as Istanbul, Warsaw, Tel Aviv, and Moscow, alongside seasonal charter services to European destinations. Operated by TAV Georgia, Batumi Airport is notable for its proximity to the Turkish border—just 20 kilometers away—allowing it to function as a shared facility for both Georgian and Turkish travelers. With its modern facilities and strategic location, BUS plays a vital role in supporting tourism and economic growth in the Adjara region.
